Potty Update

Tonight Sophia said she needed to go potty. I took off her diaper (she took off her own pants) and she sat on the potty for about 3-5 seconds. Then she took off. In case you were wondering, there was nothing in the potty. Cory and I thought we should let her be without a diaper for a couple minutes to see if she would sit on the potty again and maybe have some success. Besides who can resist a cute baby bottom? I was trying to figure out what I was going to have for dinner when I hear, "Pooh, Pooh. Pooh, Pooh." Not good. She pooped on the floor. Then she wouldn't leave her little poop's side. So weird. Just goes to show that early "success" really doesn't mean anything. I have a good feeling this is going to be a VERY long process. Here's a picture of her poop on the floor........ Just kidding.

Pooh Potty

Today we took a family trip to Walmart. We got Sophia her very own potty. They didn’t have an Elmo potty, so Pooh and friends will have to do. She loves this potty. She begged for us to take it out of the box. Once I put it together, she wanted to sit on it right away and carried it through the kitchen and family room. She said she needed to go potty so I helped her pull her pants down, and she did. She had one little poop in the potty. I am convinced this is a complete fluke and means absolutely nothing. But, it did demonstrate just how weird first time parents are. Not only do we have pictures of her on the potty, but we have a picture of well, the result. Cory took that one. I wouldn’t even do that. Don’t worry though. That particular picture had been deemed “unbloggable”. I have thought of sending it to close family members. I mean, if they really love Sophia, they would be interested, right?

Dance Dance!!

Sophia loves music in general but lately has been hooked on "Choo Choo Soul". For those of you that don't know what that is, there is a short little "music video" that is sometimes on The Disney Channel. It has real people with a cartoon train and background. Sophia really loves it. We TIVO My Friends Tigger and Pooh and have 2 episodes with Choo Choo Soul videos following the show. We would have to sit on the couch and rewind them over and over again so that she could dance. That got old REALLY fast and so I searched for a DVD on the internet. There isn't one. Can you believe it? But I did buy the CD from iTunes. Cory uploaded it to the TIVO so we can have Choo Choo Soul whenever we want. Yeah! Actually, it is pretty good music. For kids music, anyway. I will say that it is the only kids CD I have ever listened to in the car where I had to turn down the bass. That's saying something. I caught some still shots of the dancing as well as video. Don't worry. No video of Cory or I dancing will make its way to the WWW. It's just embarrassing.

Shakin' her groove thang! (I love this picture)

Getting Dressed

Sophia is starting to try to get dressed and undressed. She has a little problem getting shirts back on as well as getting her pants over her diaper in the back. She is getting better but usually gives up and goes around in a diaper.

She loves to sit in her baby doll stroller. I don't know why.

Elmo Juice

The Banets got Sophia some juice boxes with Elmo on them for Valentine's Day. I was a little worried about them because we have tried juice boxes before and they get squirted everywhere. Well, today I decided we would try them in the comfort of our home. If she squirted them everywhere, so what?! Sophia did really well. She only had 2 squirts which landed in her tortillini and I just mixed it in. She was really excited about them. She calls them Elmo Juice. She is so in love with Elmo. Thanks Banets for the Elmo Juice. Sophia is a HUGE fan.

New Phrases

One of Sophia's favorite phrases is "I bite" which is unfortunately very accurate. She has been placed in time out several times due to her biting. We have talked to her numerous times about this telling her it is not nice to bite your friends. Then her phrase grew into "I bite. Not nice." Pretty cute and funny if it weren't for the subject matter. Last night when I was trying to get her calmed down for bed she added another one. She said (with a smile), "I pinch". Then we went through the it's not nice to pinch thing and I mistakenly said, "Sophia, you shouldn't pinch. It's mean to pinch." She looked at me with a huge smile and said, "I pinch. I mean." Then she said "I mean" about a thousand more times. It's cool that she can put together that she pinches+pinching is mean= she is mean, but it is a little freaky to see your child tell you she is mean with a huge smile on her face. I am trying to convince myself that she doesn't really know that being mean isn't something to be proud of. We'll see. So, all of you Donna's kids, I am sorry. My child is apparently a bully. Pinch or bite her back. You have my permission.

Graduation Day

Saturday was Sophia and Libby's graduation day from this episode of swim lessons. Both girls had a good time showing off all their skills. MiMi joined us fo see how awesome the girls were at swimming. She was, of course, very impressed. Sophia was very happy MiMi was there and took many breaks to see MiMi during the lesson. These last 2 lessons Sophia has developed a fear of going under and even just getting her face wet. I am not sure what that is about. Hopefully we will work that out this summer in our pool. I was very proud of both girls. They both did a great job.

Graduation Day complete with diplomas, friends, and family in attendance.

some loving and hugs from MiMi....
and again.
Sophia's reaction after going under water. Wow!!! What a difference a year makes. Last year she barely knew what happened after she went under. Just goes to show, another year older and wiser is not always a good thing!
Libby was nice enough to style Sophia's hair before we went to Qdoba. That Libby. Always thinking ahead.

Happy Valentine's Day

This is Cory's present from Sophia. I think it turned out really well.

If I turned the flash off, you could see my reflection in the glass. Classy.

Speed Racer

This evening the family went to Meijer together to get Cory's team at work some Valentine treats. Sophia was so cute. She wanted to walk and hold both Cory and I's hands. She started walking really fast so I said "Sophia, you are so fast". Well, she loved that. For the rest of the time in the store, she would yell "I fast" and take off running down the aisle. It was so cute, I just let her do it. She makes me laugh.

Snow Day

Today was Sophia's first chance to play in the snow. All the other times it has "snowed" it has melted before I have been able to get off work. Needless to say, it wasn't the best snow ever. That layer of ice on top was an interesting treat. Sophia didn't know quite what to make of it. She would take a few steps when she stayed on top of the ice and then all of the sudden she would hear a cracking noise and then sink down the 3 inches (maybe less) to the ground. She was not a fan of that. She didn't walk around much in it but we managed to have fun anyway. She wanted to play on her swingset and in her garden. So we played on the snow covered swing and went down the snow/ice covered slide and played in the garden. For Christmas her MeMe (my dad's mom) got her an awesome sled which she calls "my seat". I pulled her around in that for a little while. She really liked that; especially when I ran. The pictures I got don't really show that she liked it, you'll just have to take my word for it. Chloe had a great time. She ran around like a crazy dog. She was nuts. By the time we came in she was drenched and muddy. I was so glad that I got to spend a day home with Sophia.

I am sure that everytime you see a kid in a huge snowsuit you think of Ralphie's brother in A Christmas Story. But seeing Sophia in her snowsuit reminded me more of Ralphie in that pink pj outfit that looked like a bunny. The words of his father come to mind when I look at Sophia. "That is a pink nightmare." Yes, but what do you want for a couple of bucks from a yard sale? It kept her warm and dry. Cory thinks it is ridiculous.

One awesome sled

Enjoying the swingset. It was kind of slow going on the slide. It was a good thing she had on that much padding because the first time she went down, the ice was breaking up underneath her. I had to practically pull her down the slide. She didn't care. She loved it.

Sophia's first snowball. She was so proud.

She was so unsure of her footing that she just wouldn't give up the binky. She did learn 2 new words. Snow and ice. Not a bad day's work.

All grown up

Today was just more proof of how big she is getting. She wanted to drink out of a cup today not the sippy kind. So after one try in the living room, we moved to the high chair. Much safer. The cup is from her tea set from Santa. She did pretty good. She was very impressed with herself.

Going to the store with a baby is hard work. Sophia packed up the baby, her purse with her camera (you never know when there will be a perfect blogging opportunity) and went to the store. She managed pretty well.

Swim Lessons

This week was the second to last week of swim lessons. I will be sad to see them over this year. Sophia has really enjoyed them. It has been great fun for me to spend that time with her. She did a great job this lesson.

Growing up

On Saturday, after Sophia woke up from a late nap, we just hung out here and played. It was so much fun to just all be together playing and laughing. I realized how fast she is growing up. She really looks like such a big girl. I can't believe it. She's almost 19 months old. Where has the time gone? She is so much fun and learning to talk. This week she is starting to put words together in sentences. Instead of "nite-nite" she now says, "Daddy, nite-nite" when Cory is pretending to be asleep. A new one is "Up, up Daddy" which means, "Wake up Daddy". And of course, "I bite. Not nice." That's her favorite. These are just random play pictures of a Saturday night where she looks so much like a big girl and not at all like a baby.

Looks like they are in deep conversation.
I think she is going to start her own blog soon with her Tinkerbell camera.
Trying on Daddy's shoes
Oh, no. She's going to be a computer geek too!! Yes, that is a computer geek shirt Cory has on. And, yes, I bought it for him. Guess what it "says".

The box

Of all the toys that Sophia has, she has found a new toy that is her favorite; a box. She had a gret time playing peek-a-boo with it.

It's so funny how if she can't see you she assumes you can't see her. The second picture is one that she is yelling "Boo" to her Daddy. What a crazy gal.

Glasses

Sophia loves her glasses but will only keep them on for a few seconds. She looks so cute! I love it. I am looking pretty crazy in an effort to get her to smile. It didn't work out well. I look like I am insane. (which is arguably true)
